Video: RSPCA NSW Community Outreach Programs
As part of my role as RSPCA NSW Media Liaison, I had the privilege of creating weekly video stories named Short Tails. I was responsible for identifying the story, conducting interviews, gathering the footage and creating the storyboard. The final edit was completed off-site due to other work pressures of my role.
This is my favourite Short Tail, documenting our trip to regional New South Wales. It was all part of the RSPCA’s efforts to reduce the number of unwanted companion animals in the regional parts of Australia and to improve their overall health.
Here you watch as RSPCA NSW desexed, vaccinated and microchipped as many as 80 animals in Condobolin in just three days. This community outreach program is important to the community as it offers services to pensioners and low income earners; those who wouldn't usually be able to access veterinary care.
The program is funded by Lachlan Shire Council and organised by local ranger Willy Cunningham. The Community Animal Welfare Scheme (CAWS) has been an initiative of RSPCA NSW in regional NSW for the past 11 years to help reduce the number of unwanted animals ending up in pounds. Already this year CAWS has reached Walgett, Lightning Ridge, Bathurst and Bowraville.
